Suri Alphabet, Live in an Anjo Classroom!

This brief video clip takes you to Bargu’s 2nd grade Suri Anjo school classroom near Kibish, Ethiopia. The class is in the process of reciting the Suri alphabet. Enjoy their enthusiasm for learning in their mother tongue!

Students in the Anjo primary school get one period per school day of a class like this taught in Suri. The remaining class periods are taught in Amharic, a widely used language in Ethiopia, but essentially a foreign tongue for most Suri children. Just before we visited his classroom, Bargu had completed the a multi-day training session in mother tongue education (MTE): the first under the new Light of the Suri MTE project!
